We hope you were all able to enjoy a little time with the family, some nice pressies and plenty of bread sauce over Christmas, now it's time to look towards New Year. That, of course, is all the excuse you should need to indulge in a little mid-holiday excess! This week's #MasterofCocktails recipe is therefore a festive twist on the French 75 – tasty, refreshing and indulgent.
A good party drink this as we reach for the Champagne and wish good riddance to 2013!
It's been a quite the year here at Master of Malt though (I'll probably do a round up at some point), and we've also celebrated the arrival of many, many tiny humans, with babies seemingly popping out all over the business like Champagne corks on New Year's Eve!
Right then chaps, this week’s #MasterofCocktails recipe is The Improved (New) Holland Gin Cocktail. Despite what you may be thinking, this is one that whisky fans will really enjoy. We're using some top notch American ingredients here too, including the New York Distilling Company’s fantastic Chief Gowanus New-Netherland Gin as well as some Cask-Aged Whisky Bitters.
Brooklyn, you see, used to be a Dutch colony. Yep. And this gin we're using is a Holland gin (i.e. a genever), and it was made to a 19 century American recipe with the help of David Wondrich, using the New York Distilling Company's unaged, double-distilled rye whiskey. Moreover, it's bloody fantastic.
Whisky cocktails don’t get much more classic than the Blood and Sand, so it was inevitable that it would feature on #MasterofCocktails sooner or later. This version has, however, been thoroughly pimped with some snazzy new ingredients!
Most of the tweets I received last night went along the lines of "I need to get me some of that", almost regardless of the ingredient that was being mentioned. They were all 100% spot on too - you do indeed need these in your life as they're properly crazy-good!
