Master of Cocktails - Pink Gin

Master of Cocktails Pink Gin

Well greetings one and all. Ready for another installment of #MasterofCocktails? Good then.

This week's is a very, very straightforward drink, but one that seems to have fallen somewhat out of favour recently. We're making a Pink Gin recipe. Probably one of the very first Gin cocktails?

The original recipe here calls for simply gin and bitters, served at room temperature, in a tumbler. Not that, obviously.

by Ben Ellefsen     26. January 2015 08:18

Master of Cocktails The De La Louisiane

Well hello there cocktail fans. Hope you all had a wonderful Burns Night (apostrophe?)! In celebration, for #MasterofCocktails on Sunday we made a De La Louisiane recipe, which is a... erm... a cocktail with American Whiskey.

Should've thought that one through a bit better really, eh?

Nevertheless - this really is a good 'un. It's sort of a halfway house between a Manhattan and a Vieux Carre.

Master of Cocktails - The Gimlet

Master of Cocktails The Gimlet

Right then campers. Time for this week's #MasterofCocktails. This week it's a Gimlet recipe, one of those that's super-simple if you do a bit of prep. We're going to be venturing into slightly more prep-heavy territory soon, so this one's a decent bit of practice. As ever, we'll be publishing all the directions in advance (in the case of prep) here and on the Master of Malt twitter, along with the cocktail recipes so you can either make it along with us, or come back to the drink at a later date.

As such, we'll be making our Gimlet using homemade Lime Cordial. You could make this drink with shop-bought, but honestly? It's just not worth wasting good gin on. The lime cordial only takes minutes to make, and lasts for weeks in the fridge.

Master of Cocktails - A basic gin punch recipe

Master of Cocktails Gin Punch

Hopefully you were all paying attention during the last #MasterofCocktails, as we made the most important part of this week's drink(s) a week in advance – the Oleo-Saccharum (a fancy term for sugared peel).

There's nowt better than being able to have your guests serve themselves amazing punch, and sorting the Oleo-Saccharum ahead of time will save you a load of effort. You also won't have to 'work' the sugar into the peel, and will also ultimately yield better results.

In case you did miss it, let's have a look at how you should make your own Oleo-Saccharum a week in advance in preparation for making your Gin Punch...

Master of Cocktails - The Corpse Reviver No. 2

by Ben Ellefsen     12. May 2014 10:54

Master of Cocktails Corpse Reviver No 2

Right then chaps – it's #MasterofCocktails time once again. This week we made another real classic – The Corpse Reviver No. 2.

It's yet another excellent recipe taken from The Savoy Cocktail Book – a superb compendium you all should own.

The Corpse Reviver No. 2 is also one of those drinks that manages to lives up to the awesome name it's been given. Unsurprisingly, it was originally a hair of the dog drink, with Craddock warning readers that "four of these taken in swift succession will unrevive the corpse again"! It can certainly be enjoyed at any time though. We've made a few substitutions here – most notably Pierre Ferrand Curaçao has been brought in on account of its yumminess.

Master of Cocktails - Bathtub Ginger Beer

by Ben Ellefsen     14. October 2013 13:44

Master of Cocktails Bathtub Ginger Beer

It’s been a pretty epic week for cocktails between the The World's 50 Best Bars 2013 awards, where Artesian at the Langham Hotel scooped the big prize and Nightjar was the runner up, to the far-reaching London Cocktail Week 2013, where a £10 wristband gave you access to £4 cocktails at over 150 venues for 7 days!

Those who attended the latter and kept their eyes peeled may even have found themselves being treated to some rather excellent Bathtub Gin punch, courtesy of Maverick Drinks, at the ‘secret’ Farrell Speakeasy.

Sloe Gin from Professor Cornelius Ampleforth!

by Jake Mountain     20. August 2013 15:48

Professor Cornelius Ampleforth Sloe Gin

Back in 2012 Professor Cornelius Ampleforth released his own unique version of the classic that is Sloe Gin, and he saw that it was good. Very good. So good, in fact, that everybody bought some... and then they bought some more for good measure. Then there wasn’t any left…. until now!

Introducing: Professor Cornelius Ampleforth’s Sloe Gin 2013! *cue rapturous, hearty applause*

One of the problems the Professor faced last year was securing sufficient quantities of high quality Sloe Berries in order to keep up with demand. (After all, almost half a pound of Sloes are used in the production of each and every bottle!) Excitingly though, he now seems to have a handle on it now.
