Glenfarclas 105 Winner's Running 21 Miles for Charity to Claim Prize!

by Master of Malt     24. April 2015 15:00

Charity Bee Suit Run

Sometimes, a great thing happens off the back of something else unexpectedly. When we gave you all the chance to win a very rare, not-available-for-sale, mahoosive 3 litre bottle of Glenfarclas 105 on 105 Day (by telling us why you deserved it most on Facebook or Twitter), we expected some great responses. What we didn't perhaps expect was the sheer number of entries, or that thanks to our winner's brilliant response we'd all now have a chance to help raise some money for a great cause.

Deserved winner Andrew Wheelhouse will be running from London (Orpington) to Tunbridge Wells - over 21 miles - on Saturday 2nd May to collect his prize and to raise money that will allow 16 Malawian children to attend secondary school for an entire year. He's not a seasoned runner either (he had to go out and buy trainers when he found out he'd won!) so this is one hell of an undertaking. In the words of our new favourite person:

Find a Four-Leaf Clover And Win In Our St. Patrick's Day Competition!

St Patrick's Day 2015 Irish Whiskey Tasting Set

If you take a glance up at the sky, you might notice that the rolling blanket of grey clouds that we’ve become acquainted with for the past 6 months is sometimes briefly replaced with a flaming ball of hot plasma. That fact that we can catch a glimpse of it means the cosmic grip of winter is waning and spring is on its way to thaw us out.

This also means that St. Patrick’s Day is almost upon us! To celebrate the Feast of Saint Patrick (and the fact that the Sun hasn't left us and ran off with some other planet like COROT-7b), we’re running a little competition which could result in you getting your hands on some fabulous Irish whiskey!

WINNER of the Exclusive Overeem Bourbon Cask Release Competition

by Master of Malt     19. September 2014 17:00

Old Hobart Overeem casks

For the last month we've been running a cracking little competition offering the chance for one lucky winner to join a select panel of whisky experts later this month that will decide which bourbon cask will be bottled as the first ever bourbon matured Overeem Tasmanian whisky! The selected whisky will be a UK exclusive, a release of just 50 bottles at 60% abv, with the winner also bagging themselves a bottle - a personalised one at that!

How would this lucky winner be chosen? Well, not by luck at all actually, but by writing the best tasting note for Overeem Sherry Cask 43% (with two runners up winning bottles of this popular expression).

Exclusive Overeem Bourbon Cask Release Competition

by Master of Malt     21. August 2014 12:36

Old Hobart Overeem casks

WIN a place on the panel to choose which cask gets bottled as well as receiving a special personalised bottle of the resulting limited edition release!

A proper competition this, for all you malt fans out there. The marvellous folk at the Old Hobart distillery in Tasmania are wonderful whisky makers, but are sometimes a little indecisive. Alongside his truly excellent Sherry and port cask releases, Head Distiller and distillery owner Casey Overeem has - for the first time - filled a small number of specially re-sized bourbon casks with his wonderful single malt! The trouble is they all taste superb, so he's having a little trouble to decide which one to release first in the UK... that's where you come in.

Winner of The Gleneagles Competition!

by Sam Smith     6. November 2013 10:57

Dapper dolphin

There are people who are born winners. Other people become winners. Some people are born as dolphins, which means that they aren’t actually people at all. We’re not concerned about dolphins today (although we should all help save them from extinction!).

No, today it’s all about the lucky winner of our rather marvellous Gleneagles competition!

Ballantine's 12 Year Old Trip - Part one

by Ben Ellefsen     17. September 2013 15:23

Ballantines selection

Okay. I’ll start here with an apology. This is possibly the most overdue blog post in the history of man (except my review of Dead Rabbit NYC, that’s more overdue). Things have happened since then, y’see. Things involving setting up new and exciting drinks distribution companies, developing a whole mess of new products, and the introduction of a mini sleep-terrorist into my house. These things have precluded me from doing what I should have done ages ago. The last one has also probably precluded me from spelling any words in this post correctly or being sure if my hands are, in fact, my hands. If you’re reading this, Ballantine’s-press-folk, you can have one free shot next time I see you, subject to the normal rules of course*.

The Macallan The Flask

Excellent work: many of you successfully infiltrated The Competition! You completed all of your objectives and only a bare minimum of innocent bystanders were horribly crushed to death during your tank shenanigans!

C is for... Cutty Sark!

by Cat Spencer     15. March 2013 12:00

Cutty Sark

That’s right, folks. Those crafty chaps from Caskstrength announced today their new bottling! Due to launch on 25 March 2013, the third instalment in the much-celebrated Alphabet Series is indeed a Cutty Sark, Neil and Joel undertook the herculean task of blending their own whisky, and the result is sure to be interesting!

Something Awesome this way comes

by Ben Ellefsen     22. February 2013 15:33

I’m sure you’ll all remember the frankly fantastic couple of bottlings launched by the irrepressible duo from Caskstrength Neil and Joel in the past year or so?

First up was an Arran – a delight of a whisky with a frankly absurdly low outturn of only 92 bottles. This astonishing bottling rapidly sold out, and is now changing hands for hundreds of pounds on auction sites.

Second was an astonishing Benriach, matured for an impressive 16 years, and finished for 4 of those years in a Pedro Ximenez cask. This too, sold out in incredibly short order.

After ‘A’ for Arran, and ‘B’ for Benriach, must come ‘C’.
