Beefeater Global Bartender Competition 2014 MIXLDN

The Beefeater Global Bartender Competition (now the fourth biggest cocktail competition in the world, we're told) brought finalists from 30 separate countries together in London this week for 2014's grand final.

Last time around Jason Williams from Sydney's The Rook took the crown with the brilliantly named ‘Werewolves of London’*, a drink that used our Frankincense Bitters! (You can now find the new and improved version of these Frankincense Bitters as part of the Bitter Bastards range.) This year, after three days of intense judging, we can reveal that the Global Champion is Brandon Phillips from The Duck Inn in Chicago. Congratulations Brandon!

Master of Cocktails - The Magic Number

Master of Cocktails The Magic Number

Greetings all. Anyone fancy a drink?

We're making a cocktail using Champagne for this week's #MasterofCocktails - it's The Magic Number recipe. It's not a 'Champagne cocktail', as that's a thing in its own right. This is a variation on a recipe I nicked from the Kamm & Sons website. Variation only in quantities, not ingredients. It's a great showcase for the Kamm & Sons British Aperitif - which is sort of bittersweet. Closest comparison would probably be Campari.

Anywhoo - this really is a very easy-to-make drink, and is a break from the Christmas tradition of 'all the Champagne'.

Master of Cocktails The Gimlet

Right then campers. Time for this week's #MasterofCocktails. This week it's a Gimlet recipe, one of those that's super-simple if you do a bit of prep. We're going to be venturing into slightly more prep-heavy territory soon, so this one's a decent bit of practice. As ever, we'll be publishing all the directions in advance (in the case of prep) here and on the Master of Malt twitter, along with the cocktail recipes so you can either make it along with us, or come back to the drink at a later date.

As such, we'll be making our Gimlet using homemade Lime Cordial. You could make this drink with shop-bought, but honestly? It's just not worth wasting good gin on. The lime cordial only takes minutes to make, and lasts for weeks in the fridge.

Master of Cocktails The Last Word Cocktail

Following on from The Negroni and The Scottish Gold Rush, we’re now entering Master of Cocktails’ third week – how time flies!

Each week you can follow along on Sunday evenings via twitter (#MasterofCocktails) and, in fact, from now on we’ll be letting you know what you’ll need for the following week, making it even easier.

(You can find next week's ingredients at the bottom of this blog post.)

Last night, we made one of my all-time favourites cocktails: The Last Word. These are just awesome. If you haven’t ever tried one then, frankly, we feel sorry for you. Fortunately, you can remedy this terrible state of affairs by following the simple instructions below...
