Movember 2011 – The Halfway Mark

by Michael Orson     17. November 2011 15:59
Glenfarclas Movember 2011

Finally we’ve arrived at the halfway milestone; that point in Movember when our upper lips no longer look lazy and unkempt, but instead play host to genuine moustache excellence. The chaps at Master of Malt are now fully fledged mo-wearers, and could proudly play the lead role in the upcoming biopic of Tom Selleck that I’m secretly writing when Ben’s not looking. That is, aside from one of the new “placement stiaowdents” and our MD, Justin, both of whom now must cope with ridicule and social ostracism for their inability to develop anything more than a shadow under their noses. They live with their shame.

Onto the really important stuff, so far, just halfway through Movember 2011, we’ve raised £5,135! Cripes! We’ve done this by selling our marvellous Movember whisky – a stunning 9 year old Glenfarclas drawn from two casks. We’re selling the bottle for £39.95 and you can read full tasting notes here. Movember Whisky 2011

Tom Selleck

“Hey! Wait just one second. People are incorrectly spelling November and are growing things on their faces that suggest they shouldn’t be within a 500 metre radius of a school. What the devil is going on?”

Maybe that reaction was entirely made up, but it does give me an excuse to fully explain Movember to all who will lend an ear, and so here goes…

At Master of Malt, we’ve been loyal Movember supporters for ages, but for the past few years we’ve actively participated by launching our own, incredibly special, More...

Our Movember Whisky gets a Pop Art Twist

Richard Paterson Movember Whisky

Everyone knows the mighty moustache is the greatest bastion of masculinity; it’s a symbol of true manhood. Once a year, the chaps in the Master of Malt offices are granted the tremendous opportunity of being able to relentlessly rip on the one or two gentlemen incapable of growing anything more than a bumfluffy disgrace, all thanks to Movember.

(The writer of this post is sporting a handsome development, even after just a few days of growth…)

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the name of the game…

Movember (the name is a portmanteau of “Moustache” and “November”) was founded in 2004 as a charity which raises awareness and money for various men’s health issues. It’s also a perfect trump card for our anti-tache other halves because, at the beginning of November every year, men must shave, then grow a moustache for the duration of the month, in order to spread the word of a very good cause. Movember

The more observant of you will have noticed that for the past 27 days, a blooming great moustache has adorned the front page of our website, and the Master of Malt logo has also sported a rather dashing pair of lip-weasels. The reason for this isn’t temporary insanity – we’re simply showing our support for the month-long men’s health charity event – Movember.

Every November (November, Moustache, Movember – geddit?) men all across the country grow their ‘taches from scratch, and join in with events to raise funds for The Prostate Cancer Charity. It’s a sobering thought that prostate cancer accounts for a full quarter of all incidences of cancer in men in the UK, and raising awareness of this condition is something that we’re glad to be a part of.

The Master of Malt team has shown its support in 2009 by growing (mainly very inadequate) moustaches, and launching a special edition ‘Whisky 4 Movember’ bottling. All the profits generated by this bottling are being donated directly to Movember.
