Feis Ile 2014, Tales From The Isle - Bruichladdich Day

by Jake Mountain     26. May 2014 10:48

Tales From The Isle Bruichladdich Feis Ile

Greetings traveller,

In this issue of Tales From The Isle we travel to Bruichladdich over on the Rinns of Islay. This was good news for us as we're actually staying on the Rinns, although we still managed to arrive late for the Octomore Discovery tasting with Jim McEwan. Oops. Bruichladdich day is also one of Fèis Ìle's most fun distillery days - watch your step though, for it takes place on the site of some dark happenings and black arts.

Indeed, this is place where things are taken right to the edge and are often shrouded in a Scotch mist of secrecy...

Bushmills Whiskey Trip: Day Two

by Ben Ellefsen     18. August 2011 10:36
Make It 2 Bushmills

Yes, Day two of the Make it 2 Bushmills competition started early. Very early indeed.

As we prepared to roll out to the first event of the day (barrel rolling. See. Told you the jokes would get better) I had a chance to reflect on the competitors, all of whom I had a proper chat to last night, and am once again amazed at how all whisk(e)y competition winners seem to turn out to be the kind of people you'd be delighted to go out for a drink with socially. The World’s Oldest Whisky Liqueur

Oldest Whisky Liqueur

We hope you’ve had a wonderful Easter! It’s been a very eventful past couple of weeks for everyone, and we’ve certainly had more than our fair share of barbeques, cocktails and general revelry (there was some kind of wedding on at the weekend, apparently).

In other news, we have some new products to announce (for real this time, this isn’t another April Fool), and we’re sure they’ll be the topic of much enjoyment, discussion, and possibly even a little controversy.

The World's Oldest Whisky

World's Oldest Whisky

There are few moments like this in history; moments which involve something daring and utterly extraordinary. Moments that no one will ever forget.

For us, the Chaps at Master of Malt, this might just be our biggest moment yet…

We’ve discovered the world’s oldest whisky. What’s more, it’s more than a century old. This, ladies and gentleman is an absolutely spectacular achievement, and one that will hopefully go down in the annals of whisky history.

We are proud to announce… More...

Our First Whisky Tasting

by Master of Malt     23. March 2011 14:55

Our First Whisky Tasting

We ran our first official in-house whisky tasting last Thursday and all-in-all it was a rip-roaring success!

The tasting, led by Darren Rook – our tastings manager - was all about the Scotch regions, and the extraordinary variation there is in whisky from different parts of Scotland. Beginning with the lightest/gentlest whisky first, we journeyed (figuratively) to the Lowlands, with a single cask 19 year old Rosebank no less!

This was followed by the lower strength version of our single cask Tomatin 19 year old (Stephen Fry’s favourite whisky!), which offered up a fantastic array of barley, zest and malty sweetness.

Next was a charming Speysider: a 1987 BenRiach, bottled by Gordon and MacPhail. The refill American hoggie maturation resulted in a spicy, biscuity dram with oodles of creamy vanilla on the palate.More...

Laphroaig Whisky Tasting

by Master of Malt     9. March 2011 17:14

Laphroaig Whisky Tasting

Last Thursday, a contingent from MoM visited the Hyatt Regency Hotel for a Laphroaig tasting, led by distillery manager, John Campbell.

Laphroaig is one of the world’s foremost distilleries, whose ubiquitous whisky’s popularity has not suffered one iota for being intensely peaty and utterly distinctive, and John talked us through just what makes such a powerful, muscular malt so well-loved the world over... He also let us in on a few rare treats (some of which have yet to hit shop shelves!). More...

Whisky Tastings

Whisky Tasting

You’re probably wondering what this post is about. If you suspected it was an announcement that we, the chaps at Master of Malt, have started running tasting sessions from the comfort and luxury of our town centre offices in Royal Tunbridge Wells, then you’d be correct.

Your questions may be:

1. “What will they involve?

2. “How does it affect me?”

3. “But I don't live in Tunbridge Wells!”
