Master of Cocktails - The Americano Bolognese

Master of Cocktails Americano Bolognese

Well hello there you. Time for another #MasterofCocktails me thinks. This week we made a twist on a classic, which is genuinely better than the real thing. We're making an 'Americano Bolognese'.

I have a real problem with 'regular' Americanos. They take one of the best drinks in the world (Camparisoda) and ruin it. This concoction, however, stands entirely on its own two feet, borrowing only the booze-ingredients from the original.

So – a quick thank you to @nuloungebar, and @MaverickDrinks for the recipe, and then straight into it.

Master of Cocktails Americano Bolognese ingredients

You’ll be needing these...

List of Ingredients

  • 35ml Campari
  • 35ml Antica Formula Carpano Vermouth
  • 2 shakes Angostura Bitters
  • Orange wedge (to be added to shaker)
  • Root Ginger (a piece about the size of a brazil nut)
  • 100ml Tonic Water
  • Lemon twist (Garnish)
  • Grab yourself a cocktail shaker, and add 35ml Campari.

Next up, 35ml red vermouth. I prefer Antica.

Now a handful of ice, pop that in.

Followed by a wedge of Orange, skin still on (into the shaker).

Now grab a piece of root ginger about the size of a brazil nut...

...and run it up into very small dice, and add to the shaker.

    Master of Cocktails diced ginger

You could juice the ginger if you've got the inclination, but shaking the dice works just as well.

Give it a shake and then strain the drink into a rocks glass with fresh ice in.

Now top off with tonic water (about 100ml).

Finally, garnish with a Lemon twist, and serve.

Next week's ingredients haven't actually been released yet, but suffice it to say, we'll be making a 2014 Manhattan...
