Icons of Campbeltown Release No.2
From one Campbeltown icon to another
The second release in Glen Scotia’s Icons of Campbeltown series is here. Each whisky draws inspiration from the etchings found on the town’s famous Market Cross. The 14th-century cross is littered with stone carvings of saints, beasts, heroes and more, a glimpse into Campbeltown’s past.
The latest instalment is inspired by a visualisation of Saint Michael, who is said to have slain a fire-breathing dragon. And who are we to say otherwise? Fires would devastate whisky operations in Campbeltown in its Victorian heyday, so Glen Scotia pays tribute to this complex history by teaming up with Marvel and LucasFilm artist Joel Holtzman to create a beautiful bottle and packaging design.
The Icons of Campbeltown
Glen Scotia adds to its limited-edition annual series for the second time. Once concluded, ‘The Icons of Campbeltown’ will boast five remarkable single malts.
Each is a celebration of the Campbeltown community and is inspired by the iconic Campbeltown Market Cross. This historic meeting point for celebration and storytelling sparks the imagination of new generations to this day.
Glen Scotia 14yo Icons #2
Glen Scotia 14 Year Old - Icons of Campbeltown Release No.2 is a medium-peated single malt produced by master blender, Michael Henry. After the whisky was laid down in American oak, Henry decided upon a six-month finish in Barolo red wine casks, giving the smoky, coastal liquid juicy notes of red candied fruits and berries.

Icons of Campbeltown Whisky
Campbeltown’s Market Cross is littered with icons, intricately carved by unknown hands into the face of the medieval cross once found in the centre of the town, which dates from the 14th century. Saints, beasts, heroes and their foes are said to vividly capture tales of Campbeltown’s prevailing spirit, creativity, and history – much like the Glen Scotia story.
The first single malt in Glen Scotia’s Icons of Campbeltown series was inspired by a medieval carving of a mermaid in the market cross area of the town itself. It’s a single malt aged in bourbon casks and then finished in palo cortado sherry casks and bottled at 54.1% ABV. The striking packaging was also by Holtzman.
